Federal regulators have granted President Donald Trump's family crypto venture, World Liberty Financial, conditional approval to operate like a bank. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency announced the venture is on track to receive a banking charter, allowing it to issue stablecoin tokens called "USD1" within the United States without intermediaries. This represents one of the most direct official actions involving the president's private finances, with Trump appointee Jonathan Gould leading the regulatory body.

Co-founder Zach Witkoff stated their ambition is to build the most trusted digital dollar while strengthening the U.S. dollar globally. The move significantly benefits the Trump family financially, with Trump making $65 million in 2025 from selling World Liberty Financial shares and nearly $600 million from digital assets through the company. Democratic lawmakers, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, criticize the decision as corruption, calling it "the most brazen act of self-dealing our system has ever seen.".
