Phineas Fisher remains one of the most prolific and public hackers never to have been caught. A hacktivist with anarchist ideals, Phineas first emerged in August 2014 by hacking Gamma Group, the makers of the Fin Fisher spyware, leaking product manuals and price lists.

A year later, they targeted Hacking Team, an Italian startup. Phineas stole over 400 gigabytes of data, including source code and internal emails. This breach exposed global scandals and eventually led to the company being sold for one euro.

Phineas continued targeting entities aligned with their anti-police and leftist ideals, including the Mossos d’Esquadra and the ruling party of Turkey’s president. They also breached Cayman National Bank, using the proceeds to fund a "Hacktivist Bug Bounty Program" and donating Bitcoin to Rojava. Despite investigations by Italian authorities and other agencies, Phineas’ real identity remains a mystery, with the hacker admitting that clues regarding their identity are often "half trolling."
