In Nigeria's Ekiti state, for instance, officials struggle to extend terrestrial networks due to challenging geography and high costs, leaving local commerce hampered by poor internet. Starlink offers a viable alternative for regions where traditional infrastructure is impractical.

Bringing fiber optic cables or even mobile tower connections to hilly regions like Ekiti is prohibitively expensive. The 250km distance from Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub, further complicates terrestrial rollout. Internet service providers have been reluctant to invest in such difficult terrain, leaving a significant connectivity gap that Starlink is now filling.
