A hobbyist revived the classic SimCity 3000 on a modern Windows 10 LTSC 2021 PC, proving the 1999 title can run at native 4K. The rig features a Ryzen 5 3600, Radeon RX 7600 and 48 GB RAM. Installing the original Scholastic CD succeeded on 64‑bit Windows, but the launch suffered low resolutions, missing music, laggy scrolling, accelerated panning and absent widescreen support. The effort required only free downloads.

The first remedy uses a GOG‑provided patched executable that adds widescreen mode and disables the CD check. Editing SC3U.ini reduces mouse acceleration, while the D3D‑Wrapper forces true fullscreen at 3840×2160 and fixes DirectX 11 rendering glitches on modern GPUs. Applying the community‑made 4GB patch raises the addressable memory limit, which noticeably speeds tile rendering and eliminates brief placeholder cubes. No commercial software is needed.

Additional steps disable the dead auto‑updater, replace missing soundtrack files from the original disc, and apply a music patch that restores absent tracks. Copying the .xa files into the local RES/SOUND/MUSIC folder ensures full audio playback. After these tweaks the game runs smoothly, displaying crisp isometric art at 4K, showing that legacy titles can be modernized with free community tools. The guide is shared publicly online.
