The story follows Santana, who splits herself for work, sending her digital clone to test Mesa, a corporate computing system. Santana’s copy navigates surreal 2D/3D Captchas, investigating the cyber‑world and halting hallucinations while her “meat body” lives a different life. The game explores micro‑labours that train AI and the shifting relationship people have with that labor.

Mesa believes it has a body, and its close‑up animations were built with a wide array of micro‑expressions to create ambiguity and uncanny realism. The visual style draws from Final Fantasy XI’s Play Online Viewer and the 1998 anime Serial Experiments Lain, echoing the “Frutiger Aero” aesthetic of early internet optimism.
