Polymarket newcomers profit on Iran ceasefire bets

Polymarket users created fresh accounts to place strategic bets on the Iran-US ceasefire announcement, earning hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits. Despite Trump's escalating rhetoric and no clear signals of a deal, at least 50 wallets placed substantial yes bets before the ceasefire news broke.

One wallet created at 10am ET placed $72,000 in bets at 8.8¢ and cashed out for $200,000 profit. Another wallet from April 6 made $125,500, while one created just 12 minutes before Trump's post earned $48,500 on $31,908 in bets. Polymarket has labeled the contract as "disputed" pending resolution.

This pattern mirrors previous profitable bets on geopolitical events, raising questions about inside information trading. Bipartisan congressional efforts aim to broaden insider trading definitions to include prediction markets, with even major platforms acknowledging this regulatory need.
