Pokémon Emerald on RP2350: 60fps HDMI

Pokémon Emerald has been ported to the RP2350 microcontroller, running natively without an emulator. This port achieves a 60 fps HDMI output by recompiling the game from ARMv4T to Cortex-M33 and reimplementing the Game Boy Advance's video hardware in software on the second core.

The entire game, including code, graphics, maps, and music, is an 11.7 MB image executed directly from flash memory. The RP2350 runs at 252 MHz, with core 0 handling game logic and core 1 managing the PPU rendering to a 240x160 RGB565 framebuffer. The output is a 640x480p60 DVI/HDMI signal.

Testing indicates the game is playable from start to finish, maintaining a locked 60 fps in most scenes, with the exception of the OBJ-window intro cinematic. Limitations include incomplete audio, no link cable or wireless functionality, and a non-functional RTC, affecting time-based events. The port builds upon the pokeemerald-wasm project and the pret/pokeemerald decompilation.
