Entomologists have unveiled Antscan, a 3D anatomical atlas of ants created using a particle accelerator. The platform features micrometer-resolution reconstructions of 792 species across 212 genera, revealing internal structures like muscles, nerves, and stingers that were previously invisible to standard imaging methods.

Researchers used the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology's synchrotron to scan over 2,200 preserved specimens.
