Nintendo announced significant price increases across its gaming hardware and services, citing shifting market conditions and a challenging global business outlook. The Nintendo Switch 2 will cost ¥59,980 in Japan (up from ¥49,980), representing roughly a 20% price hike. Price adjustments will also hit the United States, Canada, and Europe starting September 1, 2026.

In the United States, the Switch 2's MSRP rises from $449.99 to $499.99. Canadian customers will pay $679.99 (up from $629.99), while European pricing climbs to €499.99 from €469.99. The original Switch lineup faces steeper increases in Japan—the OLED model jumps ¥10,000 to ¥47,980, the standard Switch reaches ¥43,980, and the Switch Lite hits ¥29,980. Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions in Japan will also increase in July, with individual annual plans rising to ¥3,000 from ¥2,400.

The company attributed the adjustments to sustained shifts in market conditions expected to persist over the medium to long term, along with rising production costs. Price increases extend to traditional products like playing cards and Hanafuda in Japan due to material costs. Nintendo has sold over 6.1 billion games and 870 million hardware units globally to date.
