Motorola Phones Hijack Amazon App to Inject Affiliate Codes

Motorola smartphones are quietly hijacking the Amazon app to insert affiliate tracking codes, redirecting users through a browser before landing in the intended app. The behavior affects the $1,900 Razr Fold and Razr 60 Ultra when opening Amazon from the app drawer, creating a brief Chrome flash that most users would miss entirely.

Investigation reveals the Smart Feed app update (v2.03.0070) is responsible, routing traffic through devicenative.com and ultimately to kira-abboud.com with an Amazon affiliate code. The redirect only triggers from the app drawer, not homescreen shortcuts, suggesting deliberate engineering rather than accidental behavior.

Users can stop the hijacking by disabling Smart Feed in Settings > Apps, which immediately halts the redirects. While Motorola hasn't responded to requests for comment, the involvement of an unrelated fashion influencer's affiliate code raises questions about whether this represents intentional monetization or a compromised third-party integration that the company failed to properly vet.
