Mea Culpa – Dark Hours Project Apology

Last week I launched a project called Dark Hours, a website utility to show what could be seen in the sky that night.

A developer who created another web app called Dark Hours.app replied on Bluesky, showing how similar the project was, even sharing the name. I said I would differentiate the features, change the name, and write a blog post.

About an hour later, it became clear that the web app I built using Claude was strikingly similar to his open‑source project, reproducing a Bug he later fixed. I decided to redirect the domain directly to him and cancel any plans for an i OS app.

I want to give credit where credit is due, urging users to use the actual version of his project. I also apologize for my irresponsible use of AI to build the site. While I had never seen Dark Hours.app before, I was careless relying on AI without checking for existing work. That’s on me, and I take full responsibility. Going forward, I will not create web apps with Claude in this way, nor will I build i OS software that way.
