Linux From Scratch (LFS) is a project providing step-by-step instructions for building a custom Linux system entirely from source code. Currently, the Linux From Scratch organization consists of several subprojects. The main LFS book serves as the base from which all other projects are derived.

Beyond Linux From Scratch (BLFS) helps extend a finished LFS installation into a more customized and usable system. Automated Linux From Scratch (ALFS) provides tools for automating and managing LFS and BLFS builds. Multilib Linux From Scratch (MLFS) is a variant of LFS which sets up a system able to build and execute 32-bit binaries.

Gaming Linux From Scratch (GLFS), based on BLFS, helps install gaming support software like Steam or Wine on a new LFS or MLFS system. Supplemental Linux From Scratch (SLFS) supplements an LFS installation beyond BLFS. The Hints project is a collection of documents explaining how to enhance an LFS system beyond the standard books.

The Patches project serves as a central repository for all patches useful to an LFS user. The LFS Editor's Guide describes the LFS development process. The Museum contains copies of ancient LFS and BLFS versions.
