Founder Schuyler Brown developed the tool after his father's cancer diagnosis highlighted the chaos families face when trying to locate essential information like wills, insurance policies, and bill payment details.

The platform guides users through discovering and organizing information, connecting to over 12,000 financial institutions to automatically surface important bills from sources like email and bank statements. Users can then add details about documents, trusted contacts, and account access, with instructions for loved ones on how to proceed.

LastShelf emphasizes secure handling of sensitive data, stating it never moves money and integrates with password managers like 1Password for account access. The service offers a trial period before a single pricing plan, aiming to simplify a difficult but necessary aspect of personal preparedness.
