The National Science Museum is launching a new registration system to preserve historic scientific materials. A primary example is the SE-8001, the first personal computer launched in Korea. Released in January 1981 by Sambo Computer, this machine modified a foreign design and used a television set as its monitor for display.

Corporate accounting management drove the early adoption of these machines, which eventually started the home computer era in the region. The government now seeks to systematically manage materials that demonstrate originality or represent a specific stage of technological development. Experts will review applications twice a year to determine which items hold high historical or educational value.

Selected materials receive official certificates from the Minister of Science and ICT. This status grants owners support for conservation treatment and consumables to prevent decay. The museum plans to use these artifacts for educational lectures, booklets, and exhibitions to document the activities of engineers. This system ensures that early hardware remains available for study.
