Payment processor Stripe appears to be behind the policy change, according to emails sent to creators. The company informed creators as early as March that Stripe would conduct its own review of adult content projects and might shut down funded campaigns. This follows similar restrictions on Steam and Itch.io in 2025 when payment processors pressured platforms to remove NSFW content.

The move reflects a broader trend of financial institutions dictating content policies.
