Jolla has announced that its new Sailfish OS smartphone will begin shipping in the first half of 2026, following over 10,000 pre-orders. The Finnish company has launched a second round of pre-orders for European customers, offering the €649 phone with a €99 down payment and delivery scheduled for September.

The Jolla Phone features mid-range hardware including a 6.36-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 7100 processor, and 256GB storage with 8GB or 12GB RAM. A standout feature is the physical privacy switch that lets users disable cameras, microphones, and wireless hardware. However, this switch is software-defined rather than hardware-based, making it less secure than physical kill switches.

What truly distinguishes the Jolla Phone is its Sailfish OS software, a Linux-based operating system that runs Android apps through its AppSupport feature. The company positions it as a privacy-focused alternative that doesn't require Google accounts or send data to big tech companies by default. The phone also supports modular back covers through Jolla's "The Other Half" system, with community suggestions ranging from keyboards to E Ink displays and environmental sensors.
