The founder of Qubes OS—a security-focused operating system she led from 2009 to 2018—announces she'll explore themes beyond pure technical security in her latest writing endeavor.

Rutkowska previously authored The Invisible Things Blog from 2006 to 2018, focusing on operating systems and virtualization security. Her deeply technical work earned her a reputation as one of the most respected voices in computer security research, though she admits the intensity of that work caused her to lose touch with other aspects of life.

Now in her mid-forties, Rutkowska describes her value system as "more complex" than during her younger years focused on Truth and Freedom. Her new blog will document struggles between Rationality and Humanism, Pragmatism and Beauty, Individualism and Community. She frames the blog as a reportage of ongoing questions rather than answers—suggesting the uncertainty itself may be central to humanism's essence.
