Analysis of OONI data revealed that at least 6 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Italy began blocking access to the reproductive health websites Women on Web (WoW) and Women Help Women (WHW) in mid-February 2026. These blocks were primarily implemented through DNS tampering.

Key findings indicate concurrent blocking of both WoW and WHW across major Italian networks including Fastweb, Vodafone Italia, EOLO, Sky Italia, and Iliad/Scaleway. Specific blocking methods varied, with some ISPs returning bogon IP addresses or NXDOMAIN responses, while Sky Italia redirected users to a block page. These actions limit access to crucial reproductive healthcare information and services.

Women on Web, founded in 2005, is a pioneer in online abortion care, providing access to abortion pills and advocating for demedicalization. Women Help Women offers similar support for self-managed abortion. Both organizations aim to improve access to reproductive healthcare, especially in regions where it is legally available but practically difficult to obtain, such as Italy. The blocking of these sites hinders individuals seeking this vital information and care.
