HNewhere: Hacker News Discussions with Articles

Hacker News •
×

A new userscript called HNewhere aims to streamline the experience of reading articles linked from Hacker News by integrating discussions directly alongside the content. The script, developed by twalichiewicz, automatically detects when an article has been shared on Hacker News and loads the relevant discussion into a resizable side panel.

This eliminates the need to constantly switch between the article and a separate Hacker News tab for comments. HNewhere works by leveraging the Hacker News API and HN Algolia search. It doesn't require user credentials and offers features like a collapsible sidebar, preserved width, and direct reply links to HN.

The userscript can be installed via popular managers like Tampermonkey or Violentmonkey. If an article has not been previously shared on HN, clicking a link from Hacker News will open the article with the discussion panel already present. Feedback on HNewhere is welcomed.
