The GNU Hurd published its latest quarterly development summary, highlighting experimental 9pfs support, a work-in-progress OpenNTPD port from OpenBSD, and a Neovim port.

Kernel improvements include Mikhail Karpov adding mmap checks in several places and working on storeio for the bootstrap chain. Currently, Hurd uses static /dev/ entries — for example, /dev/wd0s1 through /dev/wd0s16 exist even if unused. Karpov's work will enable dynamic SATA device population at boot, eliminating the need for static translators.

The dhcpcd port continues improving, which is important for future IPv6 support. The report showcases developers pursuing their own path without mainstream interest, described as refreshing.
