The Free Software Foundation Europe has secured permission to intervene in Apple's legal challenge against the European Commission at the Court of Justice of the EU. This second intervention marks FSFE's continued defense of interoperability and software freedom in Europe, following their previous involvement in a related DMA case against the tech giant.

The current case centers on Article 6(7) of the Digital Markets Act, with Apple contesting the Commission's requirements for software and hardware interoperability. These mandates aim to improve developer access to technical information and clearer procedures for connecting applications with Apple's operating systems on smartphones and tablets.

The Court acknowledged this case's "significant impact" on free and open source software. With industry interests already represented, FSFE ensures civil society's perspective receives consideration. The organization will now prepare its statement, arguing for practical interoperability measures that benefit developers and users across the EU ecosystem.
