FFmpeg Cassette Tape Audio Simulation

Hacker News •
×

A project by AARomanov1985 on GitHub simulates cassette tape audio profiles using ffmpeg. The simulation applies realistic tape characteristics such as hiss, wow and flutter (pitch modulation), bandwidth limitations, and equalizer adjustments.

Different tape types are modeled, including BASF LH Extra C90, Maxell UD C90, Sony CHF60 Type I Normal (1978), Sony CHF90 (1978), TDK D90 (1995-1997), and the Soviet mk60 tape. Each profile emulates specific hiss levels, flutter, frequency responses, and vintage qualities.

Users can convert local audio files (MP3, OGG, M4A, AAC) or record live web streams using provided bash scripts. Processed audio is saved in an "out" folder. The project is licensed under the MIT license.
