DebtBomb CLI Enforces Code Expiration

Developer Jobin Jose has released DebtBomb, a new command-line tool designed to stop temporary code comments from becoming permanent fixtures in production. The problem is familiar to most engineers: quick fixes marked with TODOs linger indefinitely, creating hidden technical debt. DebtBomb tackles this by attaching explicit expiration dates to code comments, causing CI builds to fail once a deadline passes.

The tool scans for special `@debtbomb` tags in any language and enforces a cleanup policy. If a developer wants to keep the temporary code, they must manually extend the date or remove the tag entirely. To prevent surprise failures, the system can warn teams via Slack or Discord seven days before a bomb explodes.

Most importantly, expired debt bombs automatically generate Jira tickets, assigning ownership and context directly to the responsible team. Jose is currently seeking feedback from engineers managing long-lived codebases to validate if this approach improves on standard linting or manual ticketing processes.
