Computable: GPU Market by the Week

Computable has launched a new market for GPU nodes, allowing users to buy, sell, and redeem compute by the calendar week. The platform aims to address the inefficiencies in current GPU rental markets, which often involve long-term bilateral leases with no resale options and significant price discrepancies.

Users can purchase GPU capacity for the exact weeks they require, avoiding long-term commitments and flexibility premiums. The system also allows for selling back unused weeks, converting them into cash with a continuously posted buyback quote. Furthermore, Computable enables users to "buy or sell the future," locking in prices for future compute needs.

The first auction is currently live, offering a block of GPU nodes from August through January, sold by the week. Bidding is sealed and closes on July 31. The platform emphasizes transparency, with all clearing prices published after settlement. Founders from Jump Trading and Coinbase developed the trading infrastructure, drawing on their experience in energy markets. The initial auction features a limited capacity of nodes, with bids specifying the number of nodes, desired weeks, and price.
