CERN has been selected to host the next phase of Open Research Europe, a flagship open access publishing platform supported by the European Commission and a consortium of European national funding agencies. This move represents a significant step for open science, expanding authorship eligibility to researchers across 11 participating countries while maintaining completely free publishing for all authors.

The technical infrastructure will be built on Open Journal Systems, with CERN providing operational support. ORE follows an innovative publish-review-curate model where articles are first checked for integrity, then published openly before peer review occurs. This approach combines quality assurance with transparency, as peer-review reports are made public and successful articles are curated into subject-specific collections.

Since its launch in 2021, the platform has published over 1,200 articles with participation from more than 6,300 authors across 3,000 institutions worldwide. CERN's hosting leverages its expertise in developing open science infrastructures like Zenodo and Invenio, providing a neutral environment for scholarly communication that promotes equity and transparency in research publishing.
