Amazon Web Services unveiled a new data center campus in Montgomery County, Missouri, backed by a multibillion-dollar investment. The site will host AWS cloud and AI workloads, creating over 400 full‑time technical jobs and thousands of construction roles. It expands AWS’s existing Missouri footprint, which already supports more than 10,000 employees and an equal number of indirect jobs.

AWS negotiated with Ameren Missouri to keep utility costs off other ratepayers and funded a 138 MW carbon‑free power project enough for 28,000 homes. Water use will stay under 0.1% of the local aquifer’s annual recharge, thanks to free‑air cooling 90% of the time, rain‑water harvesting for 20% of demand, and six‑times water recycling. These measures aim to meet sustainability goals while running a high‑density compute facility.

The county expects hundreds of millions in new tax revenue and AWS pledged $7 million in community contributions, including $3 million for emergency services, $1 million for a fairgrounds gathering space, and funds for road, water, and STEM programs. Governor Mike Kehoe hailed the project as a boost to infrastructure and jobs. Montgomery County now competes as a Midwest data‑center hub.
