Dissatisfied with Android's direction, including Google Play Services, device tree lockdowns, and AI integration, the author is switching to a Linux-based mobile OS. The mobile Linux landscape, while not perfect, shows promise with projects like Ubuntu Touch, postmarketOS, and Sailfish OS.

The author chose Sailfish OS on a Fairphone 4, appreciating its Linux integration and gesture-based navigation, allowing SSH access for tinkering. However, issues include outdated Python/glibc versions and broken Waydroid/GPS on the Fairphone port. Community apps are also noted as being poorly coded.

Ubuntu Touch is another option, featuring Waydroid support, but suffers from poor notification/clipboard syncing and lackluster native apps. The author found it difficult to block numbers. Complete abandonment of Android isn't yet possible due to app dependencies for banking and services, necessitating a backup Android phone.
