I read every word of Christopher Alexander's opus, A Pattern Language so you don't have to. It's intimidating to read the whole book (1,100+ pages) while learning the 253 patterns he describes. So, I started a Twitter handle to help me learn by posting about one pattern each day. Here, I collected all 253 patterns in one list to easily reference.

Patterns 1- 94 = Towns: What must be built gradually piece by piece with small individual acts in order to fit within larger global patterns. Key patterns include Independent Regions, Distribution of Towns, City Country Fingers, Agricultural Valleys, and Lace of Country Streets. The framework emphasizes balancing urban and rural life, creating identifiable neighborhoods of 5,000-10,000 people, and integrating work with living spaces.

Critical insights include the Four-story Limit (high buildings destroy social life), Nine Per Cent Parking (over 9% parking destroys environment), and Sacred Sites protection. The patterns advocate for decentralized learning, web-like shopping distributions, and mini-buses for complete transit coverage.
