Pakistan sent seven players home after heavy defeats at Headingley and Lord's, falling 2-0 down in the three-match series. Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and assistant Umar Gul have been replaced by Mike Hesson and Ashley Noffke ahead of the third Test at Edgbaston. Former captain Shahid Afridi called the PCB's sweeping alterations the "most shocking decision ever by a selection committee."

Of the seven replacements called up, only batters Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal have Test experience.
