New York-based Praxis, a crypto-backed "digital nation" led by CEO Dryden Brown, has signed a deal to build a physical community within the +Colonia development near Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. After a global search that included considering Greenland and Mediterranean locations, the 30-year-old former professional surfer announced the "world tour has concluded" with Uruguay as their chosen home.

Praxis, financed by hundreds of millions in crypto funding, aims to create a hub for "the most talented, sharp sort of thinkers" to develop new cultural, economic, and governance systems for a post-AI world. The agreement with +Colonia, led by Argentine entrepreneur Eduardo Bastitta — an adviser to President Javier Milei — is largely nonbinding, with land acquisition targeted by end of 2027.

Brown plans to relocate to Uruguay by December, with community members moving into +Colonia's first buildings next year. The project reflects growing interest in South America's southern cone as a tech haven, following billionaire Peter Thiel's move to the region. While skepticism remains about whether the online community — known for New York gatherings with "meet me in the eternal city" dog tags — can materialize into brick-and-mortar reality, the deal marks a significant step for the tech-utopian movement.
