Memory Stocks Lose Momentum Amid AI Trade Concerns

Memory stocks, after strong first-half gains, have stalled as AI trade concerns weigh, despite solid fundamentals. Shares of Micron Technology Inc., Sandisk Corp., Western Digital Corp., and Seagate Technology Holdings Plc remain off their peaks, trading near May levels.

Analysts note that while the companies continue to benefit from robust demand for DDR5 and NAND flash, investor focus has shifted to AI-related semiconductor plays, causing the memory sector to lose its earlier momentum. The S&P 500 Index still lists them among top performers year‑to‑date, but upside is limited.

Authors Ryan Vlastelica and Carmen Reinicke note that the “smart money” is rotating out of memory stocks, waiting for clearer signals on AI spending and data‑center capex before re‑entering the trade.

Market watchers expect a potential rebound if AI-driven demand translates into higher memory orders, but for now the sector trades in a narrow range, reflecting cautious sentiment.
