Valve has released SteamOS 0.3.0 for the Steam Frame, its first system update since the headset launched on September 14. The changelog highlights "substantially faster charging while unit is off / sleeping," addressing early reviewer complaints. Testing by The Verge shows charging improved from an initial 8 W to roughly 19‑21 W and a peak of 42 W during gameplay, compared to the previous 27 W peak.

Valve recommends a 45 W or faster USB‑C charger, sold separately from the $1,059 headset. Additional updates include better controller tracking with haptics, enhanced stability under high load, a fix for garbled audio, and the "Force Always‑On" motion smoothing setting now working per app. Motion smoothing in Half‑Life: Alyx has been adjusted, and developer changes add Vulkan layer fixes, Mesa graphics performance work, and relaxed Playable resolution requirements.

The update is rolling out to all users, though US and European buyers may still await the notification email that began on September 18.
