Quinn Hughes reported to Minnesota Wild training camp without a new contract extension. The star defenseman is in the final year of his deal with a $7.85 million salary cap hit. Hughes stated he feels no stress to finalize terms before the Oct. 1 season opener.

His agent Pat Brisson and GM Bill Guerin have begun negotiations. Hughes recently won Olympic gold with Team USA and set a franchise record with 53 points in 48 games after a midseason trade from Vancouver. While speculation links him to playing with younger brothers Jack and Luke at the New Jersey Devils, Hughes emphasized his happiness in Minnesota and fit with the team.

Fellow Wild left wing Marcus Foligno advised waiting until later in careers to play with family. Guerin, who served as GM of the U.S. Olympic team, has developed a strong relationship with Hughes, who trusts the GM will address the team's needs. Hughes said he doesn't plan out his future far in advance, simply enjoying the summer prior to camp.
