Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-MO, introduced S. Res. 833, recognizing Missouri's 1960 football team as national champions. The Senate unanimously passed it, making the Tigers champions 66 years later. On Saturday, during halftime of Missouri's game vs. Troy, the school will honor the remaining team members.

"Kids, grandkids, great-grandkids -- I've got 25 people coming with me," said Carl Crawford, a sophomore halfback in 1960. "It's nice to be remembered again."

The NCAA recognizes 32 split champions since 1869 but has no administrative authority over the postseason. Many schools claim retroactive titles, like Georgia (1942), Oklahoma State (1945), UCF (2017), and Auburn (seven in 2025). The 1960 Tigers have a compelling case, including a controversial Kansas game, John F. Kennedy, and an Orange Bowl win over No. 4 Navy.

Missouri AD Laird Veatch says, "I'll be honest, my focus has been more on how we go win the next one?" Fans are split: some say "finally," others "Cringe."
