CBS 'Cupertino' Legal Drama Criticized for Misrepresenting City

The trailer for CBS's upcoming legal drama "Cupertino" has drawn criticism from real residents for failing to represent the California city where Apple is headquartered. According to a Mercury News report, the preview lacks authentic Cupertino landmarks — notably Apple Park — and does not reflect the area's demographic reality, where the population is approximately 70% Asian. Boba shops, which outnumber coffee shops locally, are also absent.

Despite the show's focus on legal battles between tech giants and employees, and the inclusion of MacBooks and Apple name-drops, it is filmed in New York and New Jersey with no apparent B-roll of the actual region. The series premieres October 8, but locals say the portrayal feels like fiction akin to Gotham City. Critics argue that naming a show after a specific, recognizable location invites scrutiny, and ignoring its majority demographic is problematic.

Apple is unlikely to be depicted as a legal antagonist given its brand presence in the trailer.
