CarPlay is set to improve further with iOS 27 in September, featuring a dedicated Siri app and Siri AI. Before the update, three major app enhancements arrived in August. First, the MLB iPhone app upgraded to improve the CarPlay experience, allowing fans to browse live games, select matchups, and choose team radio feeds while showing scores and details.

Second, Meta AI for iPhone now works with CarPlay, joining Chat GPT, Perplexity, and Grok as third-party chatbot options, though it remains in limited testing. Third, Storm Radar from The Weather Channel added CarPlay support with location maps, satellite view, radar, clouds, precipitation layers, and weather-based navigation including automatic rerouting and alerts. Looking ahead, iOS 27 will bring broader CarPlay upgrades.

Volvo has already equipped three SUVs with Spatial Audio via CarPlay for Apple Music and Podcasts, enabling Dolby Atmos sound. Pioneer also released an aftermarket head unit supporting the same. CarPlay now works with over 120 popular iPhone apps.
