According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is developing new health features for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 that will appeal to fitness enthusiasts. Two key upgrades include always-on heart-rate tracking and a redesigned Fitness app that shows more wellness metrics. The current Apple Watch only records heart rate during workouts and random intervals, but the new sensor could monitor continuously throughout the day. The redesigned app aims to compete with Whoop and Oura by presenting comprehensive health data beyond basic activity rings.

Apple is also testing two ceramic finish options for the Series 12: traditional white and dark gray, along with many new band colors and configurations. The current design language, introduced in 2024, featured a thinner watch with reduced bezels.

Bloomberg reports Apple plans a major redesign for either the Series 13 or Series 14, potentially introducing a new shape while maintaining backward compatibility with existing watch bands.
