The World Bank Group mobilized a record $112 billion in private capital during fiscal year 2026, more than tripling the amount mobilized in FY22. This growth was driven by expanded guarantees, reaching $25 billion and surpassing its 2030 target four years early. Private capital flows to lower-middle-income countries neared $37 billion, while upper-middle-income countries saw mobilization rise to $50 billion.

Across Africa, mobilization increased nearly 150 percent to $22 billion. The initiative is anchored by the World Bank Group Guarantee Platform, established in 2024, which streamlined investor access. World Bank Group President Ajay Banga emphasized that the capital must reach where it creates jobs, noting 1.2 billion young people will enter the workforce in the next decade.

The strategy targets five job-rich sectors: infrastructure and energy, agribusiness, healthcare, tourism, and value-added manufacturing. In FY26, 55 percent of total financing flowed to these sectors. The World Bank Group aims to sustain momentum by removing barriers and expanding the investor pool to address the growing jobs gap in developing economies.
