Moscow and its surrounding region came under attack by hundreds of drones on Sunday, the final day of parliamentary, regional and local elections across Russia, according to local authorities. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said about 1,600 drones heading toward the Moscow region were shot down, including 450 approaching the city, calling it the largest drone strike on Moscow of the war. Two people were killed and 20 injured, while an oil refinery in Kapotnya and a warehouse were hit.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated the bombardment included the first use of a newly developed Ukrainian ballistic missile, manufactured by Fire Point, though its range cannot reach Moscow. Neither claim could be independently confirmed. In Ukraine, seven people were killed in strikes on the Kyiv and Sumy regions overnight.

Moscow’s regional governor Andrei Vorobyov reported a 21-story building fire in Ramenskoye, prompting evacuation of 600 residents. All four Moscow-region airports temporarily restricted operations, grounding over 30 flights. The attacks follow a week in which 2,022 drones targeted the region.

President Trump claimed last Monday that Kyiv and Moscow agreed to halt energy infrastructure attacks, but neither side confirmed a deal. The election outcome is widely seen as predetermined for the ruling party supporting President Vladimir V. Putin.
