Wigan prepares to bid farewell to rugby league legend Sir Billy Boston. Born in Cardiff in 1934, Boston overcame being overlooked by his home club to become a trailblazer.

He signed for Wigan in 1953 and became the first black British player to tour Australia and New Zealand with Great Britain in 1954. A prolific try-scorer, he reached 100 tries in just 68 matches and finished his career with 571 tries in 488 games for Wigan, helping the club win three Challenge Cups and the Championship. His tally of 571 tries remains one of the highest in top-class rugby league history, surpassed only by Australian great Brian Bevan.

He is remembered as one of the truly great British rugby league players.
