Spanish GP: Norris Takes Stunning Pole in Masterpiece Lap

Lando Norris delivered a 'masterpiece' lap to claim pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, improving by 0.701 seconds between his two final qualifying runs to beat championship leader Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes by just 0.011 seconds. Despite making a mistake in the final corner that cost him over 0.3 seconds, Norris still secured the McLaren seat. Team principal Andrea Stella, who has worked with legends like Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso, described it as one of the most impressive laps he's witnessed in 450 grands prix.

Norris noted he doesn't use a delta display, relying instead on feel and precision to dial in brake points and kerb strikes. The new Madrid street circuit, winding around an exhibition centre near the Spanish capital's airport, proved challenging with close barriers and angled walls. Despite red flags in practice caused by Lewis Hamilton and Oliver Bearman, qualifying ran cleanly.

This marks Norris' third pole of the year, following dominant wins in Hungary and the Netherlands.
