Organisers of the Spanish Grand Prix are poised to make changes to the new Madrid circuit after criticism of its inaugural race at the weekend. Drivers pointed out the lack of overtaking opportunities on the new Madring, with Williams' Alex Albon claiming the race was "pretty boring" and Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto saying he "almost fell asleep".

Drivers praised the track's challenge over a single lap, but world champion Lando Norris said one section was "useless" and it was "not a great racetrack". Team bosses praised the new facility at the Ifema exhibition centre near Madrid's international airport. Organisers have told F1 and the FIA they are prepared to make changes for next year.

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur said: "They are keen to do modifications in the future. They have probably more latitude in Madrid than in Monaco to change something." Mercedes' Toto Wolff said: "For a first race, it's probably one of the best... They are totally open-minded about next year."

Race winner Kimi Antonelli said: "It definitely doesn't create overtaking opportunities." Norris added: "There are some obvious changes they should make... I'm excited to come back here next year if they can make these changes." Fans also criticised access and facilities on social media.
