Olympic gold medallist Katy Marchant has announced her retirement from cycling at age 33. The Leeds-born sprinter helped Britain win its first Olympic gold in the women's team sprint at the 2024 Paris Games. In the same year, she added World and European titles to her collection, complementing an individual sprint bronze from her Rio 2016 debut.

Marchant considered continuing to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics but decided her 13-year career concluded with a silver at the Commonwealth Games this summer. She made history in 2024 as the first track sprinter to return to elite competition after becoming a mother. Two years after her first child's birth, she won Olympic, World, and European titles before a crash required arm surgery and a 12-month racing hiatus.

She returned in January after her second child's birth and secured Commonwealth team sprint silver with Rhianna Parris-Smith and Sophie Capewell in July. Marchant stated she is looking forward to "a little bit of freedom" and enjoys the ability to reflect on her journey, do school drop-offs, and attend swimming lessons. She mentioned potential growth for her small cake business and her identity as a farmer's wife, while noting she remains addicted to high performance and sport.
