A content delivery network sits in front of a website, acting as a shared dependency where if it fails, every site behind it goes down. Analysis of 44,143 European companies with detected CDNs revealed that 39,547 are behind Cloudflare, representing 89.6% of the identified set. This figure surpasses W3Techs' global measurement of 84.1%, reflecting a higher concentration within the European market.

Cloudflare's dominance is evident across key markets, with the Netherlands leading at 95.6% and the United Kingdom following at 93.2%. Germany, the lowest among major markets, still maintains 81.4% coverage. The four primary CDN vendors detected include Amazon Cloud Front, Fastly, and Akamai, with counts of 3,112, 1,299, and 396 respectively.

Notably, the raw counts exceed total companies due to double-counting when sites use multiple vendors. Cloudflare has experienced significant outages in late 2025 and early 2026, including a November 2025 incident caused by a database permissions change and a December 2025 disruption linked to a React Server Components vulnerability mitigation. These events highlight the risks of such high market concentration, where a single provider's failure impacts the majority of the European web infrastructure.
