Microsoft introduced Calendar, People, and Files companion apps in early 2025 to offer quick access to Microsoft 365 data from the Windows 11 taskbar. However, due to low adoption, the company plans to retire them on December 16, 2026. These apps functioned as Web View2 wrappers, pulling insights from Microsoft 365 but adding unnecessary complexity.

Microsoft automatically installed them on many PCs and pinned them to the taskbar, though administrators could opt out. Regular users had no choice but to manage the apps manually. After the retirement date, the apps will stop working, but users must uninstall them themselves.

Removal can be done via Windows Settings, by searching and right-clicking each app, or using PowerShell commands for current or all users. Leftover local data can also be cleared manually.
