Soon after Pennsylvania officials announced measles deaths, Kennedy clashed with Governor Josh Shapiro, who criticized his anti-vaccine rhetoric. Kennedy fired back on social media, posting misinformation and claiming the state may have “fabricated” deaths.

When the CDC initially reported the deaths on August 30, it included a note saying health departments make determinations. Now the deaths have been deleted, replaced by a note saying the CDC wasn’t reporting because information doesn’t establish whether measles caused the deaths.

HHS told Ars Technica the deaths “have not been confirmed,” but a spokesperson didn’t respond about what information was lacking. Pennsylvania’s health department said it provided all required information.
