England beat Sri Lanka by 89 runs in Durham to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Will Jacks starred with 46 not out and a career-best 5-22.

Captain Harry Brook top-scored with 67 after England elected to bat, but debutant Sachindu Colombage took 3-44 to restrict England to 265 in 48.1 overs.

England took steady wickets to hamper Sri Lanka's chase of 266. Jacks struck three times in the final over as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 176 in 37 overs.

England's decision to bat first was tested when Tom Banton fell early, but Joe Root and Brook steadied the innings. Root made 68, while Brook reached a seventh ODI century in 49 balls. A middle-order collapse saw England lose six wickets for 65 runs.

Sri Lanka's chase never gained momentum. Kamindu Mendis, Pavan Rathnayake, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, and captain Kusal Mendis all fell cheaply. Wellalage offered brief resistance with 42, but Jacks sealed the win in the final over.
