Roberto De Zerbi admitted changing Tottenham's mentality is his biggest challenge after a 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle left Spurs bottom of the Premier League with two losses and no goals. Despite dominating large periods, Spurs conceded to Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa. De Zerbi said: "You can't buy the mentality in the transfer market" despite the club spending £320m this summer. He insisted the rebuild project is sound and refused to panic: "I can't change my opinion for two defeats." De Zerbi contrasted this season with the previous two where Spurs finished 17th, expressing "big, big confidence" in his players.

Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports co-commentary said Spurs' start "couldn't have gone any worse" and predicted the club will re-enter the transfer market. Carragher noted the new signings are quality but need time to gel at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
