Iraola cites lack of freshness after Liverpool's Fulham draw

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola admitted his players were tired but refused to use it as an excuse after a 0-0 draw with Fulham at Anfield. The Reds lacked the energy shown in their midweek Champions League win over Atlético Madrid. Iraola said, "There is a lack of freshness, definitely, we cannot hide it."

Liverpool struggled to create chances against Fulham, who had lost their opening three games. Fulham's Víctor Muñoz forced a good save from Bernd Leno, and Alexander Isak shot at the keeper. The visitors created several openings and should have scored after Jérémy Jacquet cleared off the line.

Fulham's point was their first under former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa. Arbeloa said, "I'm happy with the point but more with the performance of my players and the way that they played with the character, the personality, the ambition that they showed."

The result leaves Iraola unbeaten this season, but frustrated at the lack of attacking output. He felt Liverpool could take encouragement from holding firm and noted improvement in the second half with better structures.
