Harry Kane has said he is "extremely proud" of his 73-goal season for club and country, which puts him in the bookmakers' favorites for the Ballon d'Or. The 33-year-old's tally is only bettered by Lionel Messi's 82 in 2011-12. If Kane wins the award, he would become only the fifth English player to do so, joining Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen.

In an interview with TNT Sports' Owen Hargreaves, Kane said: "I'm extremely proud of the season I put up, for sure." He added that he grew up watching Messi and Ronaldo, and is amazed to be in the same conversation as the two greatest players of all time.

Kane's 73-goal season eclipsed Cristiano Ronaldo's previous record of 69 in 2011-12. Despite last term's heroics, he is already focused on improving further, saying: "Can I be better? Can I improve?"
